mess, and more mess
Well hello! I don’t think I’ve been warm since I came back from Kuala Lumpur on the first of February. I am still wearing mittens and a hat, in mid April. But I did briefly take my mitts off to photograph my cold hands agains the flowering heather, which is the same colour as my current nail polish. I know, silly but it continues to gives me endless joy. Having my nails done, not the cold hands. Simple pleasures. I am hoping for some warmer temperatures soon because my Raynaud’s is bad and I am sick of it. It takes next to nothing to trigger it. I barely touched me Friday night glass of Negroni with a single ice cube and hey pronto, three fingers went dead. The medication I was prescribed makes no difference. Maybe the dose needs adjusted but every time I remember to make a GP appointment, it is past closing time. So, warmer weather, please!
This weekend I went to Edinburgh with my friend Karen, to see Michael Bourne’s Red Shoes, the matinee. We went for lunch and cocktails first. The ballet was good, loved it. So much wonderful dancing. Mesmerising is probably the best way to describe it. The stage setting was magic. Sadly there was a very tall man seated right in front of me, I had to watch the show with my neck twisted and I couldn’t see the entire stage. I have this idea that there should be a seating area in a theatre for shorter people, let’s say up to 165 cm. That would be great because I always find myself behind a tall person in any theatre and it spoils the fun a little. But it was a wonderful show and a wonderful day and being home before dinner was an added bonus.
I also met another friend for a walk in Dawsholm Park. We are both so busy, I think we haven't met for at least two months. Too long, for sure. Friendships need nurturing.
Meanwhile, at home, we have more or less given up cleaning the kitchen and my office floors. It is futile with the bonkers puppy running in and out through the cat flap (which is under my desk), bringing in clumps of grass, sticks and other unrecognisable organic matter. It is also wet outside so lots of muddy foot prints. Josie the cat adds to the mess. She likes to hop on my desk after coming in, and then deposits her muddy prints all over. Dirty wooden floors, dirty desk surface, it is all very disgusting. I hate it all but I can’t spend all my free time cleaning. We clear up the mess once a day and sweep away the worst of the dirt but we no longer mop the floors daily. Yes, I agree, we are complete slackers. There is just not enough energy and will power in this tired woman and the same holds true for Richard. The teenagers don't care. But the puppy will grow up, the weather will improve and things will return to normal. Luckily, the pup cannot open the safety gate in the kitchen door frame so no mess elsewhere.
Otherwise, all is well, in case you are wondering.
Thanks for visiting, as always 😊

I am desperate for warm weather too. Western Canada is still waiting for Spring, at least some version of a consistent Spring. It's supposed to snow this week! Despite the mess (and tall theatre-goers, etc), good to hear all is well.
ReplyDeleteThere is more to life than mopping floors.
ReplyDeleteI am also back to mitts after we dropped back to close to freezing after shirtsleeve weather on the weekend. I’d manage with just gloves, but the cane hand gets pretty cold. I think there will only be one more day of it, though. For now anyway.
ReplyDeleteEven in summer, my fingers go numb passing through the chiller section of Sainsbury's, I never know whether to do that section first to get it over with, or leave it until last so I can get back into my gloves for the ride home!
ReplyDeleteForget the floors, they will survive. Here in Yorkshire many cottages still have old flag floors laid straight onto bare earth, not many people scrub those daily.
Christina - I am retired and have loads of time yet my floors are still dirty. Life is too short and there are other things to do than worry about it. Your nails are gorgeous - mine are chipped and faintly tinged with soil from gardening. Hoping for warmth soon too - sunny here today but there’s a cold wind.
ReplyDeleteThat was me above! X Doris
DeleteChristina, messy floors seem unavoidable with a puppy and hopefully this period will end soon. Meanwhile, it seems like you are making good use of your free time for enjoyable experiences with friends and that’s far more important than house cleaning.
ReplyDeleteThere are small signs of spring here. Some tulips starting to shoot up and more birds coming back after their winter exodus. We have also had some warm sit outside weather, and opportunities to open the window and air the house. All in all a rather lovely time. No blossoms yet. As a province we are also experiencing the downside with swollen rivers and areas being sand bagged to prevent homes being flooding. I love the pink nail varnish. So nice to hear all is well.
