I have just gone to your Goodreads page and found some books I really fancy reading. I am listening to "How the dead live" by Will Self. Loving it so far although it is rather strange. xChristinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11883091348839145603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4515007843975800463.post-23988386604891162992018-02-09T14:57:58.239+00:002018-02-09T14:57:58.239+00:00Hey Christina - We are friends on Goodreads. I think I've read 18 books so far this year and you are one of my only Goodreads friends who has a penchant for sci-fi and post-apocalyptic in addition to classics, current fiction and autobio and biographies... so I always take heed to your book reviews. You write lovely summaries. Recently, I've read Tess of the d'ubervilles by Thomas Hardy, a classic that I adored and found so relevant with respect to current social themes. I loved Eleanor Oliphant and also a book called Sourdough which I rated a rare #5! Thanks for your reviews here as you've listed some I didn't see you rate on Goodreads. I read 132 books last year and rated them all on Goodreads, tho. didn't always write reviews (I'm trying to get better about that this year). Cheers and happy reading! PS - I ADORE your quilts... always make me want to rush up to my sewing room and start pulling fabrics! I also read "Where'd You Go, Bernadette" and it was a memorable read. Sad that her next book was a disappointment. I just finished "Before We Were Yours" by Lisa Wingate which I recommend. "The Cuban Affair" by Nelson DeMille, which was good. "Little Fires Everywhere" by Celeste Ng which I don't recommend. I also found the last Rosamund Pilcher books I hadn't read, "Under Gemini" which I loved. Unfortunately, it's the only book we have in common because I haven't heard of any of the others you've mentioned. I'm really off my reading game at the moment. I have a lot of books on hold at the library, most of them new, but it could be many months before I get my turn to read them, so I appreciate having some new ones to look for from your list here. :)Jennifer Hayshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04685253944514672324noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4515007843975800463.post-57526793666355749092018-02-04T13:05:21.444+00:002018-02-04T13:05:21.444+00:00Sadly there is not a lot of reading been done here...Sadly there is not a lot of reading been done here at the moment, crafting and decorating seem to have taken over. Also Eat That Frog! about productivity which is excellent so far. I'm choosy about accents in audio versions as well. I listened to one a while back with a man trying to do a woman's voice. It came out as a terrible whiny nasal twang. I had to stop listening. When I read to the children I'm always sticking accents in though. Welsh is my favourite, but I'll give anything a go. Drives them nuts. Have a good Sunday Christina, I hope there's a little reading time in there somewhere. Glad you are enjoying your virtual reading too! I listen to books on tape sometimes so I understand why you like reading in this way. Can I suggest The Gustav Sonata by Rose Tremain? My reading group have been reading this in January. We meet next Tuesday to discuss it but I have met one or two members already who have been moved to tears. It’s sensitively written. The plot line follows the lives of two small boys from different backgrounds and their journey to manhood.
