May sock - mind the gap

For my May socks, I have been inspired by Kristie's sock shown here. She knitted a pair of socks using a yarn by Trailing Clouds, which prompted me to browse guiltily with great enjoyment for yarn. I chose a yarn called "Mind The Gap", which features the 12 colours of the London Tube map. I know I am trying to use up my granny's sock yarn but I wanted something a bit different for a change.
The yarn is very colourful and I didn't want to create a fussy pattern for this sock because it would simply disappear into the stripes. At the same time, I didn't want to make a plain sock because I have already done that this year. I chose to rib the sock from top to bottom to add a little interest to the knitting without distracting from the yarn.

What do you think? I am quite pleased with the socks and I have worn them several times already. It is still cool enough for woollen socks in Scotland!
As always, the pattern can be found on the sock pattern page. Also, I you want to find out why I am creating sock patterns you should read this post.

For June, I am working on a more elaborate pattern with another beautiful yarn I was given a while ago.

Have a lovely day. Cx

  1. Great socks! I have never knitted socks but was recently the recipient of a fabulous pair made by my Mum, and I have asked her to teach me how to make socks as it looks soooo tricky, but I would love to learn this skill from her. I read your post about why you are having a year of socks and it strikes me as a lively idea and a very individual way to honour and remember your gran.

    1. What a nice idea to ask your mum to teach you how to knit socks. Knitted socks are best, even in summer. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. *I meant to say 'lovely' way to remember your Gran, but perhaps 'lively' is just as good a word!

    1. Sock knitting is not tricky at all, I don't know who started that rumour :). Have a go, it is fun and quick, too.

  4. Oh those are fantastic socks. I imagine the rib makes them really nice and stretchy and clingy as well. One day I shall knit a sock, one day...

  13. These are awesome Christina! I've just had a lovely read back through your Posts to see what your Year In Socks is all about and love the whole sentiment behind it! How beautiful. I bought some sock yarn to knit my first pair of socks some weeks ago but have been waiting to finish my some other projects...can you recommend an easy pattern for a newbie? I couldn't find the pattern you used for your January socks but something like that would be perfect! Mel x

  14. I'm loving these! The colours and the rib.

It's far too hot for socks of any kind here in North Wales today, definitely bare feet and sandals weather.
