celebrating a good weekend

How was your weekend? Mine was just lovely and I feel refreshed and ready for another week. I did finish that bottle of wine on Friday, just as recommended. The remainder of the weekend was quite uneventful but all the more enjoyable.  Here some moments of joy:

:: re-potting some of my oldest orchids and discovering new flower stems

:: spending an hour in the book shop on my own.

:: coming home to find the entire downstairs tidied and cleaned.

:: weeding at dusk on Saturday evening, listening to my audiobook, until it was too dark to distinguish big fat slugs from clumps of soil.

:: listening to Sam get up at 6:30 on Sunday morning for a nature adventure with a family friend who picked him up at 7. They climbed a mountain, saw fields of wild orchids and checked-out their adder hiding places. Sam even got to wear a bee suit and was allowed to help with a new hive. Funny how I can't get him out of bed for school during the week!

:: waking up to find coffee on my bedside table. Falling back asleep and drink the coffee cold an hour later.

:: jogging along the river Kelvin, with some Iggy Pop setting the rhythm of my steps.

:: watching Annie, James and Alistair transforming booster seats and blankets into a racing car

:: spending some more time weeding with Alistair and Richard, this time in the front garden. It was more like creating a clearing in the jungle really but all the more satisfactory.

:: finally planting out the annuals I have grown from seed in the cleared space.

:: being served a surprise Sirloin steak from the BBQ.

:: getting to the bottom of the laundry pile.

:: enjoying a small margarita served in a dainty hand cut heirloom glass to celebrate a weekend well spent

Here's to another week! Cx

P.S. This is of course a heavily edited version of our weekend. There was plenty of bickering, lots of mess, heavy rain, bathroom scrubbing and the usual noise that comes with a large family.

  1. Hey Christina,
It does lovely. And actually these kinds of posts are all about zoning out the bickering and what not, and just remembering the good stuff. Ours was very similar.

  2. I love that you're able to tune out the negative. It's one of the best things about reading blogs, for me. I had a margarita this weekend too. I could only manage half of mine before the room was spinning, but that was a delicious half. :)

    1. The tuning out is not always easy but it is easy enough not to write about it. I had two margaritas and slept like a log :)

  3. Just focus on the fun nice bits, ignore the rest!! It sounds as though you had some great times this weekend and that is all that you need to remember and to share! xx

  4. Sounds like the perfect family weekend - including the bickering, mess etc. I miss those days when my four were at home and small. My weekend was spent away teaching but good all the same. And I came home to a welcome glass or two of Prosecco on Sunday evening.

    1. The thing with prosecco is that it doesn't keep..... Love a glass or two of that stuff myself.

  5. Sounds like a wonderful weekend Christina. I like to ignore the mess, general moaning & whining (sometimes mine) and focus on the good stuff. Your margarita looks delicious :-)

    1. Yes, I moan and whine quite a lot... but of course I am very good at ignoring that. :)

  6. Sounds like a good weekend with family. And some quiet time for you, which is great! I got to go for a run by myself also, which I rarely have the opportunity to do. And I did a bit more weeding - seedlings are coming up!

    1. Quiet quality time is rare. I spend a lot of time on my own but not necessarily doing things I love to do. Happy weeding!

  7. One thing I really miss is browsing through a book shop. We don't have one here. And on your own, lucky you! Sounds like a lovely weekend x

    1. Yes I think I would miss a book shop. too. It is not the same to browse for books online.

  10. Sounds just perfect to me; and you have a cleaning and coffee delivery fairy in your house, that's impressive!

    1. Yes, the coffee fairy is good to have around, especially because the fairy sometimes does other chores when I appear a bit frazzled.

  11. Of course there is always bickering, that's normal (well, it is in our house!) but I love how you focused on the positives. Coffee in bed, coming home to a clean house, steaks on the barbecue, margaritas...I love the sound of your weekend and I hope this weekend is just as good. xx

  12. Editing for the purposes of memory making is entirely allowed ... and it sounds like some great memories were made. Here's hoping your next weekend is as good :)

  13. Well, that sounds a very productive weekend Christina, with lots of good things happening. I particularly like the coffee in bed and also coming downstairs to a clean house...I am not sure I will ever experience that in my lifetime, but I will stay hopeful! :) And well done for getting to the bottom of the laundry pile too! I have just realised that I am not following you on bloglovin Christina, which is why I keep missing your posts! I have just rectified that now. I am just off to catch up on all of your other news from the week I was away. :)
