that Friday feeling

Today's post is all about me and rather mundane.

I am so glad it is Friday. And what a great Friday late afternoon and evening it is! Warm, sunny, and happy. I am feeling most relaxed with a glass of white wine at my side. I think I rather deserve it. This week has been on the busy side with shadowing biology teaching at High School, two interviews, Annie's ballet show and knit night.

You know, just now I don't even mind that I will have to wait until next week to find out if I am the lucky winner of a job. My interviews went both well. I think. At least I didn't make a fool of myself. It was close though, for this morning, as I was giving my presentation to the interview panel, I felt my tights slide down over my bottom, like they do when they are a size too small. I am sure they were the right size when I bought them. I tried hard not to giggle and it was difficult to resist the temptation to hitch the tights back up as I was talking. Imagine that, the candidate in stitches with tights around her ankles..... very professional indeed.

After this second interview I spent a good hour in the Botanic Gardens, warmed by the sun and chatting to some lovely friends. Thank you for bringing me back down to Earth safely after two days of madness.

Then I treated myself to a weekly shop in Waitrose. It was just so nice and civilised. I love using the handheld scanners to tally up my shop, avoiding the checkout queue. I am just a big child really.

Richard came home at 2 this afternoon, with a Magnum ice cream and we had coffee in the garden before we went to school to pick up the children. He had to go back to work at 4 pm for a evening of outreach work, it is the Science Festival week and he is doing some fanciful science stuff involving single malt. It was nice to spend some time with Richard, I really rather enjoy his company.

Richard being home in the afternoon was only one of two surprises today. I received an unexpected text message from old family friends in Switzerland, saying that they were visiting Glasgow and would I fancy a quick visit. I did. Of course I did. The kids and I went to meet them on the main road because our neighbourhood is like a big maze with dozens of identical houses. As I was pulling the door closed behind me, I noticed that I had the wrong set of keys in my hand. Too late unfortunately. This is so typical. Luckily, a neighbour has a set of keys and it was not a complete disaster. We spent a nice hour in the garden, enjoying the evening sun and a chat. Unfortunately, our friends couldn't stay long but it was nice to catch up.

I have finished a second glass of wine now.

I am really tired. Sam went to Alton Towers with school, which involved catching a bus at 2:45 in the morning at their school. He had invited a friend to stay for the short night so that the friend's mum could get a full nights sleep. Never mind me, or Richard. We don't need sleep, and have nerves of steel. It is only a 5 minute walk to school but the boys set the alarm for 1am, just in case the house had magically translocated to the end of the universe. You just never know. Richard walked the boys to school and apparently they had demanded breakfast before they left. At 2 in the morning. He will be back around midnight.

I am pouring my third glass of wine now. I briefly wonder if I should go outside for a spot of weeding but settle for an episode of Star Trek instead. Have a lovely Friday evening, wherever you are. Cx

  1. Such a nice end to a busy week for you, there's no point in leaving a little wine in the bottom of the bottle, pour another glass!
I've had a manic time just latelybut spent an hour chatting this evening with wine and friends (at the cricket club!)although I really should have been home working through my list of jobs! Enjoy your weekend.

    1. My thought exactly. Wine with friends sounds like a perfect pass time for a Friday evening. The list of jobs is less daunting after a bit of fun. Hope this coming week is less mad Jay. x

    1. I don't have big expectations for my interviews and maybe this is why they went ok. Tights are really annoying, even the ones that fit.

  4. I love these Posts! This is why I love blogging, the opportunity to have a little peek into someone else's world. I love Friday's too and the obligatory Friday night wine to go along with it :-) Best of luck with the outcome of the interviews - I'll cross my fingers for you. Have a lovely weekend! Mel x

    1. Thank you Mel. It would be nice to be employed once more but on the other hand, it is quite nice at home, too. I would usually opt for G&T on a Friday night but there was an open bottle of wine, which was the easier option. Have a great week. x

  5. I should have gone to the allotment last night, but I stayed on the sofa instead as well. What a ridiculous time to send children on a trip, Alton Towers is definitely not worth losing sleep over! I'm glad your interviews went well, except for the tights incident, and at least you held it together. I hope you're able to enjoy the weekend without thinking about it all too much. Have a lovely time, CJ xx

    1. Sam would disagree with you, he loves places like Alton Towers. They used to leave at midnight but then had to hang around a motorway services for 2 hours because the theme park was not open yet. I haven't thought about my interviews at all, I have done my best and there is no point worrying now, the decisions is not mine to be made. Thankfully. Have a lovely week. xx

  6. Not mundane atall, just 'real'! Your tights story reminds me of when I was nursing, doing a ward round with a grumpy consultant and a lot of medics, and realising with horror that every time I took a step my tights were slipping steadily down, down down.....it was like a ghastly slow motion dream. By the time I got down the ward they were just above my knees and I had to slip into the laundry cupboard when the medics we're talking to a patient to hook them up. Very embarrassing and very unprofessional.

    1. I have wide hips and I guess I was lucky the tights got stuck there.... Your tight story made me laugh out loud, although of course it can't have been funny at the time. x

  7. I didn't see anything mundane here. I've had that happen with tights...at my own wedding! It was the first time I'd ever worn fancy satin underwear and I didn't know that they don't work well with tights. During our photos, I realized they were falling down and I was embarrassed to pull them up in front of everyone so I let them keep falling and eventually they were around my ankles. Good thing my dress was long! I took them off and threw them in the trash inside the ladies' room of the reception venue because I didn't want anyone to see me carrying them out of the bathroom. I really want to hear more about this science experiment involving single malt...I'm intrigued.

    1. I am not too sure what Richard does with the single malt but it involves tasting I think. I hope your shoes didn't rub when you took your wedding tights off. Shoes are the only reason to wear tights, they hurt less I think. I am not used to wearing "proper" shoes anymore.... I have yet to wear satin underwear.

  8. Oh, the weeds. I am staring at them right now through the window and since it is a beautiful day I should be doing something about them. But the little babe only sleeps for so long and I really just want to sit in peace. So here I am. No wine, though I did have my iced chai this morning. My husband had an interview yesterday and while he was sweating in his suit, the little babe and I were across the street at the arboretum relaxing - seemed a little unfair, but we all have our jobs to do.

    1. I hope your husbands interview went well! I am still waiting to hear but it is the weekend, so no need to worry. Weeds can wait, it is important to enjoy peace and quiet when the little babe is asleep.

  9. Hey Christina,
Hmm, mundane would not be a word that came to mind when describing you! Huge guffaws here at the tights incident. And fingers crossed for good news next week.

    1. I always think I am rather ordinary but maybe not? I would be delighted to be employed once more but I am not expecting anything, life is nice without paid work, too. x

  10. Star Trek and a third glass of wine sounds like a good choice to me!

We're very tired here tonight too, courtesy of a noisy party a few doors down last night which went on until the small hours, a car alarm that subsequently went off at frequent random intervals in little short bursts - we think someone from the party slept in their car - and then the mother and father of all thunderstorms just as the car alarm finally stopped ... here's hoping we can both catch up on some zzzs!

The tights incident made me giggle. I'm with Mel, these glimpses into another's life are never mundane. Fingers crossed you get the job you want x

    1. I hope you got some rest this weekend. Partying neighbours are a bit of a nuisance. Our neighbours house alarm was sounding for 7 hours on Friday. I am well rested but physically tired from gardening. Looking forward to next week, good news or not. x

    1. Sam had a ball but it took all weekend to recover. Tights are just the most annoying item of clothing, I have yet to find a pair that fits.

  12. Glad you survived your busy week. Love your poppy pictures. I have some rather rain battered ones about to flower too. Let's hope for good news with interview.

    1. I love the poppies, they are only flowering for a day or two every year. I have learnt to have low expectations with interviews, competition is fierce and posts are few. I am thinking about teacher training as an alternative career and have enjoyed a full day at High School already, going back tomorrow for another day.

  13. That is one of the reasons that I hate wearing tights, but at a job interview you can't really avoid them can you! I hope that the interviews went well though. Your impromptu ice cream in the afternoon sounds lovely! xx

  14. Beuatiful poppies Christina. Hope the interviews turn out well!

  15. Not mundane at all, I so enjoy reading about your life. I am glad you poured that third glass - I hope you just went ahead and finished the bottle.

I love shopping in Waitrose but we only have one in Leeds and it's about a 25 minute drive from me which is probably just as well, as it's certainly more expensive than my local Asda. But SO much nicer. I feel more inspired to cook when I'm there, with all those lovely ingredients so nicely presented. x

  16. It sounds like you had a lovely Friday! I had to laugh at the part about the interview, I am glad your tights did not fall down, Christina! I hope you get some good news soon. I cannot believe your son had to get up so early to go to Alton Towers, but I suppose it is quite a distance from Glasgow. I hope it was worth it and he had a good time, it was one of my favourite places when i was a kid (although I distinctly remember most of the time was spent stuck in queues!) Hope tomorrow (Friday) is another good one for you. :)
