James' long awaited day
Today is James Birthday. He is seven! He has been patiently counting the sleeps until his Birthday. 364 days .... 363 days .... 362 days .... and finally, the day is here.
James asked for lots of things, as little boys do, but mostly, he was hoping for a bike. We found a blue second hand bike for him and Richard cleaned it up and serviced it.
Because we didn't need to buy a brand new bike we could get him lots of other small bits and bobs: a bike bell, a phlat ball, a skipping rope, a football and a box full of loom bands. He also asked for a "cool" back pack, which my mum got him. Isn't it great? She also got him a Super Mario beach towel, which he loves.
For his Birthday breakfast, we had waffles with maple syrup and/or chocolate spread (leftover from the cake icing). For lunch, we went to MacDonalds. For dinner we are having chicken curry. And after dinner we are starting our long trip down to Cornwall.
The cake is Annie's own work. At James request, she tried to recreate a cake that my mum had made last year, a Viking boat. She planned it, helped with the shopping, baked the cake and assembled the boat. Isn't it just amazing? I am ever so proud of my practical young lady.
For me, it is a special day, too. James celebrates his third Birthday with us. This means that he has lived with us for longer than with anyone else. Here's to many more Birthday celebrations!
We are away for the next two weeks. Because I am overflowing with stuff I want to share, I have dabbled with the scheduling function in Blogger. I hope it works. I won't be accessing my computer much I don't think. I have packed three books instead, and two knitting projects (I am ever so optimistic). I'll catch up with my favourite blogs when I get back.

Hope you have a wonderful break.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, James! Lucky him for having found such a loving family. I find the sweet expression on his face in the first picture very moving. And good for you, buying a second hand bike. I'm all for recycling and second hand things. Why throw all that perfectly good stuff out?
ReplyDeleteThe waffles and the cake look fantastic. Have a wonderful evening there xxx
That photograph of a very proud boy with his new bike is a real heartwrencher! Talk of philately balls and backpacks reminds me so much of my boys at that stage just a few years ago- adorable. Have a wonderful holiday. X
ReplyDeleteWow, it is so fun to be 7 and to celebrate his third birthday with you. He is darling, but do not tell him I said that, tell I think he looks smart and strong and fun, he'll like that. Have a wonderful trip, relax, smile, sleep and see beautiful places.

ReplyDeleteOne of my sons is called James - he didn't like changing his age when he had a birthday! But he liked the cake and presents. Happy birthday to 'your' James. Have a lovely holiday and get lots of crochet done, I always take far too much crochet stuff with me on holiday.

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, James! What a big boy. It sounds like he had a great day. It's fun to see your kids with their loom bands because mine love them too. It's really sweeping the globe. James looks so much like one of my daughter's friends from preschool, it's really amazing because they could be brother and sister. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday!
ReplyDeleteIt looks as though it was a great birthday!!! Happy Birthday James! I love the cake, it is truly wonderful, and so creative - especially the gummi bears doing the rowing! I hope that you have a wonderful time away and that you all enjoy yourselves. xx
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to James, and what a lovely post. Your daughter did an amazing job on his cake - what a loving, sisterly thing to do. You must be so proud of her, and all of your beautiful children. x
ReplyDeleteAwww, this post made me so happy. It will soon be my James' birthday, so we have lots in common, and they look the same with their red hair! It sounds like he had a great day, Christina, and I bet you cannot believe the difference in him since he first came to you three years ago. You have provided him with such a loving and stable family environment, he really is turning into a lovely young man! Annie's cake is adorable and I bet it tasted fantastic. Have a great time in Cornwall, I am looking forward to hearing all about it when you get back. :) x
