three cheers for you

It occurred to me recently that I have been writing this blog for over a year now. Would you believe it? During this time, I have made friends, I have enjoyed reading about all your lives, your joys and worries, your book choices and of course about your creative adventures. There is so much creativity out there! There are gardeners, knitters, embroiderers, story tellers, photographers and many more. It is like going to school but even more fun! And it comes as a great relief to hear that I share experiences with many: rebellious teenagers, reluctant school boys and dropped stitches or runny jellies. I have learnt so much, thank you!

That's me aged six, to give you something to laugh about.
It was the official kindergarten photo (no school uniforms in Switzerland!)

I have shared some of my life and my creative adventures, too. Quite a lot of it actually. I am not a big talker but I do love to write. I have a lot to say and often I don't do the things that I should be doing but write for a while instead. I have not quite found my niche, I don't think. Maybe there is no niche for me. I am a woman with many voices and if I were to limit my writing to one area of my life I think I would not be enjoying this as much. I am often unfocussed, random and maybe even boring. But you know, I am enjoying myself and this is what is most important.

Maybe some day in the future I'll have the urge to analyse my statistics and stick to topics that are popular with my readers. Or I might do a questionnaire or something like that. But I probably won't.

I would love to communicate personally with each and everyone of you who leaves comments for me. But life often gets in the way. I try to reply to comments but I am a bit random. Sometimes I do a generic reply in a following post. I have tried to reply to one comment by replying to the email that notifies me of a comment but I don't know if that worked. I shall try again.

So today, I would like to offer my gratitude to all of you for reading my ramblings, commenting and following me, too.

I also want to say thank those of you who have added my blog to their blog roll. It is so nice to be mentioned. I love to click through blogs on blog rolls, it is fun and leads to great many discoveries. My blog roll is a bit out of date but I am hoping to update it very soon! As soon as the kids are back at school and life is more predictable again. Promise.

Have a lovey week, all of you, wherever you are! Cx

  2. Congratulations on your year of blogging. I started off blogging about gardening but found I wanted to include more posts about family life so I started another blog for that, but that one is very random and I blog about all sorts of things. They say that variety is the spice of life so I hope that blogging about a range of topics makes for an interesting blog.

  3. Congratulations, Christina. I really enjoy your blog. One of the best things about blogging, to me, is to see parallels between my own life and the lives of people in far-away places. I liked your blog from the moment I landed on it. I don't really stick to one kind of topic either; most of it is family-oriented, but I like to try to write about myself and my own thoughts too sometimes. It is my blog, after all. I've recently decided to stop being concerned about statistics. I've never been consumed by them, but I think they make me worry too much about who/what my blog is supposed to convey, and I'd rather just have fun with it. I'm glad you have a similar approach. Everything you've posted has been interesting to me, and I'm sure many others too.

  4. What a lovely post and I couldn't agree more with you that a blog is as diverse as the person writing it and niches don't fit people. Happy blogoversary.
    Ps Love the school pic.

  5. Happy blogaversary Christina! I love your blog as you have a friendly, honest style and random in a good, interesting way. Never boring. I wouldn't worry about finding a niche, you already have by being you! xx

  8. Happy Bloganniversary! Love the nursery pic. I am never bored reading your blog Christina! You are open, and honest, and you write with expression and a 'real' voice, what more could a reader ask for? X

  9. Congratulations on your year of blogging. I very much enjoy your posts and like that you write about what you feel at the time. To me thats more like having a 'chat' with someone, jumping from subject to subject. More natural and honest. Long may you continue :)

  10. Congratulations on one year of blogging! I enjoy your blog, but the main thing is that you enjoy it!

  11. Happy Bloggy Birthday! Here's to many more...

I agree with you about the blog roll - it's one of the best ways of finding new blogs. Many bloggers seem to have dropped it from their blogs which I think is a shame.

Oh, and please don't narrow yourself to a niche - I like the variety.

    Love the photo too!

  16. Congratulations on 1 year of blogging Christina! It's fun isn't it? I've loved following along and enjoy all of your posts regardless of the topic. I used to worry about my lack of a niche but the blogs I love don't seem to have a niche and I think writing about anything other than what we ourselves want to write about is a recipe for blog death anyway...I agree, I think it's time to bring back the blogroll. I used to have one but so many of the blogs I followed stopped blogging or changed in a different direction so I thought I'd start a new one but still haven't got around to doing it...must get onto it! 19. I'm so glad that I found you and your blog Christina. I like it's eclectic mix. I love your humour and honesty. And your compassion too. I have admired all those socks of yours, and the pair that I own are popped on my feet every evening. Fab photo of you. Here's to many more years of blogging, my friend.

  20. I'm so pleased to have found your blog Christina. I can't believe how quickly the time has flown - is really more than a year? Love the photo of you! Let's have lots more happy years of blogging! N xx

  21. Congratulations. I hope you won't analyse - I rather like not knowing which way your wind is blowing. I've stopped following some blogs that just cover one topic as I'd far rather have a good mix. I haven't found the answer to replying to comments, especially as I'm not sure if anyone actually checks to see if they've been answered.
Looking forward to following the next year.

  22. I do enjoy your Blog, loved your picture and strangely enough you and I looked an awful lot alike at age 6, I'll have to dig out a picture.

  23. Congrats on reaching the one year mark in your blogging journey! I love your blog, and am one of the lucky readers who found it in its early days. One of the things I really enjoy about your blog is the fact it's eclectic. It doesn't matter if you're writing about knitting, the ups and downs of raising children, or getting a new puppy (he's adorable!), I look forward to each post.

  24. I love the way you write with many voices. Writing back to comments is a lovely way to keep in touch, some people like to have their conversations in the comment box, but then people don't always have time to check back. I would say that the best advice I got when I started blogging was to set up a blog email, and then change your settings so you're not a no-reply commenter. Happy blog birthday, and I hope there was cake, it's traditional you know! xxx

  25. Well done on a year of blogging. I always like to come here and have a read, you never disappoint. I shall look forward to many more posts. CJ xx

  27. Happy one year, here's to many more! I know what you mean about a niche it's difficult to know whether to find one or stick with randomness!

  28. Thankyou for the big smile your photo gave me today!

  29. My blog roll needs updated too - but I pretty sure you're on it already. I think to reply to a comment you have to click the Reply just below the comment on your blog rather than replying to the email. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who doesn't talk a lot but likes to write! I find that strange but it's just the way it is.

  30. Hello Christina, I just found your lovely blog via a comment you left on Knitsofacto and I'm looking forward to catching up with your past posts. Congratulations on your first year of blogging, one of two things we seem to have in common: the other is a new puppy. Love your kindergarten photo. Have a great week.

  31. It's the variety in your blog that I love. Don't change a thing!

  32. Having spent some time this summer extracting myself from a niche my advice would be don't worry about anything other than being you. If you build it they will come may be a cliche but it works in this context.
