my year of socks - November

I have finished my November socks a while ago but the weather was so gloomy that I couldn't get a single decent photo. I avoid using the flash because it changes the colour. As it turns out, even good light does not make it more easy to photograph this particular sock! The colour is a dark purple.

I decided that what I like most is a sock with a pattern down the front. You have probably guessed that before I noticed. I wanted to make something with a leaf pattern because these patterns are easy to knit and easy to memorise. What I came up with, a twined leaves pattern, does not quite match the mental image I had before I sat down and knitted. I suppose I should have made a swatch of a variety of such patterns but life is too short and too hectic for that. Anyway, I am pleased with the outcome and that is all that matters. The pattern is actually better visible before blocking. I don't normally block socks, they get stretched nicely on my foot but I bought a new iron and I wanted to try it out. Gentle steam ironing works a treat and is much quicker than normal blocking.

I have used Hazel Knits Artisan Sock Yarn again. The colours as just too tempting. The colour is called Queen of the Night and is a really deep dark purple and not quite solid. It is a colour I love. I noticed that I have nothing of that colour in my wardrobe. I must change this soon. I have new shoes! I chose them because their sock displaying feature more than anything else. They are incredibly comfortable and sturdy and I wear them all the time. They are good for cycling to work, too. In case you want to get yourself a pair, they are Kickers and are on sale just now.

As always, the pattern can be found on the sock pattern page. Also, if you want to find out why I am designing sock patterns you should read this post.

Are you new to sock knitting? Why not try the step by step pattern I posted in January? It is a plain sock with no frills, just stockinette stitch. You can find this simple pattern on my sock pattern page.

Happy knitting! Cx

  2. Brilliant socks, I'm very impressed as usual. And the colour is lovely too. I'm a bit scared of circular knitting, I've got some yarn for fingerless mitts, I might try a sock if that all goes well. CJ xx

  3. Lovely socks again, Christina. And the new shoes. Agree with CJ about circular knitting. Also needing to knit two socks as I'm not the world's best completer-finisher of projects is rather a hurdle for me! xx

  12. Love the color Christina! One pair of socks a month is really inspiring. I wear holes in my socks very quickly though, so I could only wear such beautiful socks on special occasions.
