Christmas impressions - in no particular order

Christmas is over for another year. I always feel a little dazed by it all. It is such a fleeting moment in time. The build up to Christmas is phenomenal and then, before you can sneeze twice, it is all over. Still, memories are formed, to be stored in this deep dark drawer that contains layer upon layer of memories from Christmas days past. It is a jumble in there but I hope fragments will resurface eventually.... in a random sort of way:

.... I am still gazing at the Christmas tree but already I am looking forward to the additional living space when it has gone ......

....Admiring Annie's talent for finding just the right gift for everybody. She got green inflatable aliens for James and Alistair, a great hit with both of them.......Eating a melt in the mouth cookie that Annie made using her fancy cookie press ..... Catching up with family .....

..... Watching movies. Nothing really beats Elf. I also loved the Doctor Who Christmas special. I love it when River Song makes an appearance. On that note: the last Doctor Who series was a bit odd, wasn't it? ...... Observing James patiently build a Fisher Technic car with his uncle. James is very proud of his achievement and so am I .....

..... Food features heavily ..... Eating roast beef with Yorkshire puddings. Richard made 48 for nine people and there was not one left to be eaten with golden syrup late at night. Richard is the main cook when it comes to festive food. Clearing up suits me better, I don't enjoy cooking when the expectations are high .....

..... Sitting in my yellow chair, crochet blanket in hand, working away ...... Teaching my sister in law how to crochet ..... Enjoying a late and lazy breakfast. Every day. Nutella features alongside smoked salmon and Arbroath smokies, cheeses, fresh bread and coffee .....

..... Unwrapping my Christmas gifts from Richard and finding a bluetooth speaker cube that I had put on my Amazon wish list when I was researching gifts for Richard and then promptly forgot it was there ...... There is always a comical moment or two at Christmas ...... drinking coffee from a sweet new mug featuring Jack the dog. Well, almost ...... Cursing my children for using up the last ice cube earmarked to chill my Christmas Baileys ..... Learning how to use my new overlocker. I am still learning how to thread it properly. What did we do before YouTube? .....

..... Wondering when the rain will stop. Not even the dog fancies going outside. There has been no traditional Christmas walk yet ..... Looking forward to also catch up with friends ..... Not waking up until first light .... Thinking that I must work on my conversational skills next year. I am not so easy to talk to ..... Remembering the filled chocolate mice my mother brought from Switzerland. They were meant for the tree but I forgot all about them. I may have to eat them as they will be out of date next Christmas ..... Enjoying the peace after everyone else has gone to bed .....

I think this is a fairly good reflection of my memory drawer. Did I mention it is a jumble in there?

How was your Christmas day? Are you relieved it is over or are you mourning the passing of another Christmas? Do tell!

Wishing you all the best for the next few days. Christina xx

  1. I love this post, so full of fun and real life. I have a bunch of jumbled up memories from all of my many, many Christmases. The older boys and I were remembering favorite gifts from the past on Christmas Eve. Have fun with that new Overlock, you will love it.
    Hugs,
    Meredith

  3. There have been no dramas here just calm relaxing spending the day together after the animals were all done, watching a few things on TV, browsing books, speaking with family on the phone, eating in front of the fire, the weather has stopped us getting out to the beach, we popped round to the neighbours for a cuppa and take some edible gifts, Today I am excited like a kid waiting for Christmas, my dear friend is arriving she is my crafting buddy we speak every week on the phone, we havent seen each other in a year we have a week of crafting planned, I am so looking forward to her arriving :-)

  4. A jumble of memories here as well, I know exactly what you mean. We had a lovely walk on the beach in the howling wind yesterday. We do it most years and it really blows away the cobwebs. It sounds as if you had a lovely time. CJ xx

  5. love your jumble of Christmas memories. mine feels the same, a mix of everything stirred together, bit like Boxing day leftovers!
and yes Doctor Who was very odd this season. Do you think that was the last ever episode? There was no trailer at the end, just "and they lived happily ever after"

  6. But Christmas lasts at least a week? I'm entertaining parents here today, with chicken (my turkey was off) and all the trimmings; a second Christmas 2 days later to give me a Christmas Again? moment!

  7. Hey Christina,
A jumbo of stuff here too. Mostly good, although there have been some bad. I think my expectations of others were too high. I like the idea of having some quiet time right now.

  8. I think that's a lovely selection of memories made. Our Christmas isn't over yet, Mick's always off work until the new year so we string it out. Daniel's home from uni and we have his girlfriend staying this year too. I think my overall memories of this Christmas will be all the laughter, we've had a proper family Christmas.

  9. Sounds like you had a good weekend. I am firmly in the bah humbug camp! I hate christmas and am glad when it's over. I'm already thinking about chucking out the stickmas tree!

  10. I always enjoy reading your posts and this one was no different. I haven't watched Elf this year; Arthur Christmas was my film of choice instead. I haven't had Arbroath smokies for years and it made me smile to think about them again. Glad you had a lovely Christmas, and it's a nice jumble of memories you have :-) xx

  11. A jumble here too. The best bits: all of us watching Interstellar (we've outgrown Elf and Doctor Who sadly, although I loved the River Song back story), all of our walks in the mud and the wind and the rain, drinking Gin Gin, a delicious cocktail mixed by my son, before sitting down to Christmas dinner, mostly cooked by my husband too. My problem with Christmas is that it comes round again so quickly which is why I refuse to do anything remotely Christmassy until at least the middle of December. That way I actually enjoy the 12 days of Christmas. Oh and teaching my daughter to bake was one of my best moves, it means there's always a stream of good things coming out of the kitchen, today it was fresh mint tea accompanied by Christmas tree biscuits. Lovely!

  12. That sounds like a perfect jumble of memories. I found it funny to hear you describe yourself not good at conversation when you are so entertaining and eloquent in your writing. Pleased you all had a good family Christmas.

  13. Your Christmas sounds delightful to me and just how it should be, filled with lovely things to remember during those dark, winter days. It doesn't feel like we've had any winter yet and the rain has been relentless so staying in on Christmas Day wasn't too bad a thing to do and very peaceful and enjoyable. The sun is out this morning so we are off for another walk as more rain is expected tomorrow:)

  14. It sounds and looks like you had a wonderful Christmas, Christina. That roast beef looks amazing and Annie's cookies are so tempting. She's a talented baker. Like you I prefer tidying up to cooking especially on this occasion and we had a lovely Christmas too. Actually it didn't start off well with someone not getting the right present but peace and joy were restored eventually and the rest of the day went well. Enjoy the rest of the holidays and happy New Year to you all! X

  16. I know - Christmas is over before you can blink isn't it,but such a lovely time of year. It seems that you had a lovely family one. We have enjoyed days that are not TOO hot, which has been nice! Enjoy 2016 Christina, I look forward to chatting more. cheers Wendy

  17. I love your Christmas reflections, they paint a very accurate - and happy sounding - picture to me. I love Christmas but my goodness it's exhausting and I am glad it's over as I cherish this gap between Christmas and New Year. I have to say that roast beef looks sensational. xx
