and all of a sudden it is summer

How has your Bank Holiday weekend been? Ours was quite splendid. Well, maybe not so much Sam's He had exams on Friday and today. Whoever was planning the exam time table didn't look at the calendar. Richard and I have been off since Friday, although there was a little bit of fire fighting for a student's visa application.

We did a lot and nothing. We walked Jack, and generally took a free range approach to child entertainment. The weekend included a birthday party (James, not his), a cinema trip (Annie), friends for a sleepover (all kids but Sam), a gig (Richard), sewing (myself), a friend to play (Jack), a shopping trip into town (Annie), a barbecue with friends (all of us), reading and planting flowers (myself) and and an afternoon tea (also myself). I caught up with friends far and near. Sam was sleeping and studying and tonight, we celebrated the end of Sam's last exam in style with an order of Domino's pizza. His style that is. I finished the day with a nice walk along the canal with my my lovely friend and our dogs, followed by BBC Springwatch on the telly and a bowl of homemade redcurrant ice-cream.

Best of all, it was sunny almost all the time. Summer has arrived here -for the time being- and I am grateful for it. It is warm enough to walk barefoot, which I love. I find it really satisfying to wash my feet at the end of a sunny day, then slather them with cream and wear fluffy socks for a bit. There is still a glow of light on the horizon at 11 pm, which I love, too. The washing dries quickly and smells lovely, insects are buzzing drunkenly from flower to flower and the birds are singing from the top of the TV aerials.

We normally go camping during this Bank Holiday weekend and I was sad we couldn't go but we had a lovely time all the same and spent time with our camping friends and enjoyed the outdoors. I feel refreshed for another week at work. Wishing you all a good week. Enjoy half term if you get it (we don't). xx

  1. It does seem to be suddenly summer here too! I've had three good days out (all over the wild blog rather than my main) and seen lots of birds and insects. I too love being barefoot, indoors and out!

  2. What a terrible time to schedule exams! Sounds like the rest of you had a great weekend. We were rainy and cloudy on the weekend, but today was beautiful.

  3. Except for the exams, your family weekend did sound lovely! We are getting summery weather this week, too, and had dinner outside last night and tonight. I just published a catch-up post and then am headed off for nearly two weeks of camping starting Wednesday with some of my adult children. With unreliable internet connection I may miss our blog connection for a bit, but I hope your days will be happy days...with more time to enjoy wandering with bare feet, Christina :) xx

  4. It sounds blissful Christina, I'm glad Sam's exams are over. It made me smile that Jack had a friend round to play. Reading, planting flowers and having afternoon tea are some of my very best things to do. Summer is indeed here, it's absolutely wonderful. I'm also loving these long light evenings. CJ xx

  5. That sounds like a perfect weekend. It has been a bit chilly here but I've managed some gardening and planting helped by the puppy who seems to dig things up as fast as I can plant them. I keep telling myself it is a phase he will grow out of... I hope!

  8. Yes there is the distinct possibility of summer. Must be hard scheduling in meals with your crew at the moment. Although I bet they were all there for the BBQ. Just had our second of the year. Bliss. Have a good week. B x

  9. For once the sunny weather is in Scotland , NI and here in NW England rather than the SE! We've had a quietish weekend at home too though beginning a big declutter in advance of outr move. My Kate still in the middle of exams - we've got half term this week and she doesn't finish until 17th June.

  10. Poor Sam, so sorry exams were scheduled right around a long weekend for him. You days sound lovely a little bit of this and that and time for you too. We hung out at home but I did have to work a few hours yesterday so my weekend was not as long as I would have liked.
    Sending you a hug,
    Meredith

  11. You have to question the timetables for exams, poor thing! Sounds like a wonderful weekend had by all, the weather was good here too surprisingly for a bank holiday. Didn't last we are having quite the storm at the moment.

  12. And all of a sudden it is winter here! Cold, wet, windy, grey... While you guys in the north and west have had glorious summery weather we've been shivering and gazing wistfully out of the window. Still, it's often the other way around so I mustn't grumble too much :-) Hooray that Sam's exams are over! (Grrr to the timetable-people.) Lots of relaxing coming up for him now, I'm sure. Tom still has 11 exams to go between next Monday and 22nd June. Sigh. So glad you had a lovely weekend. Sam x

  13. Love the sound of your weekend. It's wet, windy and cold here so the heating's back, the tumble drier's back in action and the dog's very damp.

  15. I'm so glad you're enjoying such beautiful weather. After a nice bank holiday, it's been cold, grey and wet off and on this week and certainly not flip flop weather. Your bank holiday sounds perfect, just the right balance of busy and quiet. I totally get what you mean about being barefoot then washing your feet at the end of the day - I do the very same thing. :-)
