finally, a finished project

This moment has been coming for a long time.... I must have started this scarf in early November, when I noticed that my first version of the pattern was no longer in residence. It is the ZickZack scarf by Christy Kamm. It is such a simple pattern, the only stitch you need to know is a knit stitch. The patterns comes from knitting two stitches together alternated with knitting twice into one stitch over a 12 stitch pattern repeat.  This is done front and back. Once the pattern is set (after two or three rows), it is a breeze to knit and is suited for watching the telly or chatting away. To be honest, it does get a bit boring after a while. I made this one shorter than the first (very much missed) scarf.

The colour changes are achieved in the most simple manner, too. It is a bit like 'vertical stranded knitting' (if such a thing exists). The pattern asks for two colourways of a self striping yarn. The two colourways are alternated for two rows each. There is no need to break the yarn so no ends to sew in.

The yarn suggestion for this pattern is Lang Yarns Mille Colori Baby, which is a lovely lovely yarn. For reasons not entirely clear to me I chose Drops Delight instead. This is a pretty yarn, too, but not quite as pretty. It is also half the price and stocked in our local yarn shop, an easy option. I kinda wish I had been a bit patient and ordered the yarn I really wanted.

Still, it is a nice scarf and I have been wearing it these past two days. What have you been making lately? Do tell. xx

  4. How pretty is that:). Like the look of the pattern especially if I can watch tv as I knit. I'm doing the last sleeve of a pink cardigan at the moment. Hopefully it will be finished before the end of the month. Ever optimistic! B x

  6. Oh it's lovely, and it looks so clever as well, amazing that the pattern is so simple. And great that there are no ends to darn in! I'm hurtling round and round on a black jumper and wondering if there is even the slightest chance that it will fit me. I'll keep you posted! CJ xx

  7. I think that's fabulous. I love the colours and it looks far more complicated than what you describe. I like an easy pattern to follow for television knitting, I'm definitely going to put this one on my list.

  8. It's a lovely scarf and I really like the colours. Shame the first one has gone missing, hope it will resurface at some point. I'm still working on my cross stitch. I hope I'll make a bit more progress this weekend.

  9. That scarf is beautiful, Christina! And I think your colour choices are perfect. I seem to find myself on a Cowichan kick at the moment. I'm finishing up the vest I started at the workshop I went to last fall, and also knitting two other Coast Salish inspired projects by the same designer. It's a weird coincidence, not intentional at all.

  12. It is a bright and cheery scarf and despite your claim that it is an easy knit - it looks very impressive!

  13. how gorgeous!I do like your wool choice. I've always wondered how to knit zig zag. I'm making a top - not on Ravlery as old school pattern!

  14. The scarf looks lovely and that is my kind of pattern. I am knitting a Faroe shawl, which is shaped to fit on the shoulders. It also is an easy pattern that can be done while I watch my DVDs (no telly). Here is the link to it on ravelry.com: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/top-down-faroese-shawl-with-garter-rib-variation. Many people do in multicolored yarn, but I knitting in a solid red color to cheer me up during this glum winter in New York--last year it was excessively cold; this we've had more overcast and rainy days than usual. I rejoice when the sun comes out.

  15. It is stunning Christina! I have two balls of drops delight in the stash zone. Could I mix it with a plain colour do you think? I have navy and I think that might work what do you think? Jo x

  18. It's fab. The mix of colours is perfect and the pattern looks much more complicated than you describe. I'm going for easy/boring and knitting a cowl as respite from a tricky polo neck which has been pulled out more times than I care to count.

  19. What a beautiful scarf, the colours are fab, and it looks extremeky complicated to make, even though you modestly claim it is easy! I hope ypu enjoy wearing it on the cold, driech days we are currently experiencing in the good old West of Scotland! X
