just waffling

Don't you love it when the snow drops make an appearance? I do. I also love our yellow crocuses. (These are a bit out of focus and it was dark when I left the house and will be dark when I get back home so this will do for now)

Life has been running its usual course. Already, the weekend seems in the distance past and unfortunately, the next weekend is still in the distant future. On a personal level, life is good but unremarkable (and I'll get back to that in a moment). Outside my snug home things are rather different. Worrying. I am of course talking about the new president of the United States. It is disturbing how an individual can do so much harm in such a short time. I am not American and I am not particularly politically literate so don't feel qualified to say much about the new regime but what has been happening in these past couple of weeks is worrying, it really is. My American colleague is devastated, angry and worried, as are all the other Americans I know personally and through my blog. The world is polarised and divided. Here in the UK, there have been marches to support the Women's March, protests against a planned DT State Visit took place in several big cities, a petition to prevent DT from making a State Visit to the UK has been signed by 1,646,976 million citizens (at the time of writing), marches for science are planned. When has a politician last caused so much outrage? It is scary. Where will it end?

I know many of my readers and blog friends are deliberately keeping politics out of their blogs. It is what I prefer also but sometimes, just sometimes, I am breaking my own rule. Remaining silent is not always the right choice. I'll leave it at that.

As I said earlier, life on the home front is generally good. We are all beavering away quietly and nothing much is happing. I like it like that but it makes for boring blog posts. I am recovering from my first cold of the season and it feels good to be able to breathe normally again. I am trying to keep evenings free so I have time to relax, craft and see a bit more of the children. Mind you, with all the bickering I am not always sure it is a good thing. I have been enjoying some good chats with all four individually and enjoyed these very much. I particularly enjoy talking to Sam at the moment. He is an interesting and complicated character. The weekend was quiet with plenty of making. I started cutting fabric for Annie's quilt and I spent a happy afternoon at the Stitchery sewing binding for Sam's quilt from tiny scraps of fabric. I have finally started using my craft room and I like it very much. I am going to show you soon, when it is a bit lighter in the evenings.

In other news, tomorrow starts my last month in my current job. I am a little anxious about my new job but I'll do my best to impress. I am looking forward to working one day less. Imagine all the extra time! Better still, I can work school hours. I'll miss working with Richard.

I am just watching a re-run of Planet Earth II, the episode with baby iguanas and the racing snakes. It is astonishing. Have you seen it?

Anyway, enough waffling. Wishing you a good week. xx

  1. I'm horrified by our President, but do my best to ignore what's going on. I'm a child of the 60's and did my share of marching, joined Amnesty International, supported Habitat for Humanity ans many other worthy causes. Now I'm old and ask only to live quietly. Quiet and normal are not boring, they're enriching.

  2. Hey Christina,
My sister in law has hundreds of snow drops in her garden. I feel very envious. DT makes me feel impotent with rage. What an arsehole. Life tricks on here too. A daily unassuming diary of stuff. No news is good news I reckon. Have a lovely week.

  3. Well done for speaking out, it is heartening that people are standing up to be counted. The thought of four years of this leaves me cold with horror. CJ xx

  4. Something tells me DT isn't going to last the course. Public outrage is wonderful and very powerful I think. At the rate he's going a touch of impeachment is on the cards! Good luck with the new job, scary but great to have more time. So envious of your snowdrops. Can't seem to grow them, whatever depth I try. Hope the rest of your week is good. Keep smiling :) B x

  5. I'm glad life is calm for you at the moment. Same here, which is really nice. I honestly can't complain. Great to hear that you're having nice talks with your kids. I'm so glad to be in a stage where both of mine are capable of it now, it's a whole new world. And they're getting so much more helpful too. My son just helped me change the battery in the smoke detector a few minutes ago. It's complicated! I couldn't have done it without him. I hope you're having a good week so far. :)

  6. I do hope the petitions can keep DT out of your country. I don't even want him in mine but I wouldn't want to send him to you either. What a mess! I try to focus on daily tasks. It's hard, it's always in the back of my mind. Seeing what everyone is doing on the blogs does help. I love the snow drops and crocuses. It's nice to be reminded there are other things besides political crumminess.

  7. The beautiful yellow of the crocus makes for some real beauty in this unsettled world of ours at the moment. The happenings of this last week is certainly worrying. Hope your new job goes well.

  8. I havent noticed our snowdrops in flower yet must have a scout round to see if they are out, the crocuses and daffs are pushing there way up around the garden a sure sign that another growing year is on the way.

  9. It's like the world has gone mad at the moment, isn't it? No snowdrops out here at the moment but I'm looking for them every day. I know the Planet Earth II episode you mean, I can't watch wildlife programmes, I'm too squeamish even though I know it's just nature, I was rooting for that little iguana that made it. Good luck with the new job.

  10. I love your winter snowdrops. My winter bulbs have not come up yet. As to my new President Trump, many of us are excited to return the values of our nation and gain security for all of us. Our system is corrupted in many ways and needs to be fixed. Wishing you all the best, Pat

  11. Worrying times, indeed, for a whole raft of reasons. I kind of wish I could avoid listening to/reading the news but it seems I'm addicted. And then I wonder why I can't sleep. Loved Planet Earth 11 though it often had me blubbing. Hope all goes well with the new job.

  12. I hope that all goes well with your new job and that the extra day gives you time to do as you wish more! I am sure you will be wonderful and they will love you and what you do, they should be nervous about being good to you!

  13. I know exactly what you mean, I am trying to work out how to word a post on a similar topic, when I tend to stay away from such things. I hope the job transition goes smoothly, and sometimes there is a lot of enjoyment in things being normal! x

  14. Everyday, 'normal' life is good! Enjoy it whilst it lasts. Good luck in your new job, hope it goes well. Yes 'the Donald' is an appalling creature, I signed the petition against his State visit, I have not been on any marches. I have not written about him on my blog, I like to keep him out of my head space, and away from things that are important to me. I regard him as a contaminent. X
