a sunny weekend

It has been a quiet weekend here. Today, I am feeling almost human, my cold is on the way out. During the night from Friday to Saturday I felt really awful and I awoke feverish and with heart beating in the fat burning exercise range - I am not sure if a Fitbit is always a useful gadget, I obsessed about my heart rate for the rest of the night. Needless to say I was tired on Saturday. Dr Google says it is not unusual to have a fast heart rate when ill, particularly with a fever. I enjoyed a few glasses of Prosecco on Friday evening (we visited friends), no doubt a poor choice when not feeling too great. It seemed ok at the time and I really enjoyed the evening. We are lucky to have the friends we have!

All weekend, the weather was glorious here in Glasgow, warm and sunny. Saturday morning is reserved for dog walking with friends, whatever the weather. It was a most delightful walk with lots of chatting. We did a spot of gardening in the afternoon and then we ate sandwiches on the deck. The sun was warming our bare arms, bumblebees were buzzing and birds were gathering nesting material (watched by the felines). I dried all our washing outside. Later, I cut fabric for a t-shirt and continued working on a toile for a woven top. I think I am now ready to sew the real thing.

Annie spent all of Saturday on the hills with Scouts. They climbed two hills and the photos the Scout leader posted were breathtakingly beautiful. I really must get on the hills sometime soon. Annie was tired but not too tired to go out for dinner with Richard and I. She did exceptionally well at school and we thought she deserved a bit of a treat. We went to Cafe Gandolfi, a favourite of us. The food is simple but beautifully cooked. It was lovely to spend some time with our only daughter and we caught up on missed conversations. Live is busy and we don't often enjoy time together. She is turning into a great young woman.

On Sunday morning I cleaned our bedroom top to bottom, even behind the chest of drawers. I had gotten it into my head that all the dust was not good for my health. I am embarrassed to say that I still found builders dust, three months after the builders left. The floors were hoovered and scrubbed, books tidied away and picture frames dusted. I even cleaned the windows. The windows were open all day and the room smells fresh and clean. The cleaning took quite a while but I am pleased with my effort. I am counting this as exercise, my first in two weeks.

I spent the afternoon re-threading my overlocker and sewing.  In between seams, I went out in the garden to warm my skin and to inhale the fresh spring air. James and Alistair spent hours kicking a ball in the back garden, Richard watched the cycling and Annie painted her bedroom door. I negotiated some more cleaning with Sam. It is educational for him and makes my life easier. Then Sam and I did the grocery shopping in Waitrose. I like to buy ecological cleaning stuff, which is only available there. Sam disapproves of Waitrose. Too many hipster beards and soccer mums (sic!). He was happy enough to buy hipster coffee flavouring. Richard made chicken and lentil curry for dinner and better still, he made lasagne for tomorrow. He is leaving for his annual cycling holiday tomorrow, lucky man. In case you are wondering, Richard is feeling better overall but is still suffering from painful sinuses.

After dinner, I folded all the laundry. It is most enjoyable to have sun kissed washing. Can't wait to get into bed. I have to say that despite feeling under the weather, the weekend was most enjoyable. What did you do this weekend?

Wishing you all a fabulous week. xx

  1. What a productive weekend, all sounds tip top. We went for a horse riding day on Saturday - first time for my girls. It was a stunningly beautiful place on the welsh/Shropshire border. The weather helped of course but we had lunch out afterwards. On Sunday, Andy made pancakes and then went to his visit his mum with the girls and I did a whole weeks washing and 3 weeks worth of ironing. The enjoyed a pile of sewing all on my own with the radio on!!!! Looking forward to your sewing makes. I want to but the scout tee pattern really badly....Have a good week my friend. Jo xx

  2. Well my goodness for being ill you sure got a lot done. I think I would have stayed in bed with the covers over my ehad. Although a nice bit of sunshine does help. I hope you continue to get over that horrible cold/flu. Fever does take it out of you and makes your heart beat faster. Love that you spent time with the lovely Annie. She sounds wonderful.
    Have a good week.

  3. I had the same heart rate issue when I was sick earlier this month. I noticed it a few times. I'm finally starting to feel like my old self after three weeks! Gosh, it felt never-ending. It sounds like you got a lot done, especially for feeling poorly. Isn't it great to clean? I don't love doing it but it's so nice to have it done.

  5. Hey Christina,
A similar weekend here, although it was Alf who had the lurgy. Line dried washing is one of my favourite things ever. I wish I could bottle the smell. Well done to Annie. I think it's lovely that you can take her out and treat her in this way. And hoorah for clean bedrooms! Which reminds me.....

  8. Hope you all finally wave goodbye to the cold bugs and feel properly better very soon. Very envious of the sparkly clean bedroom (and the meal producing husband!). I'm still gearing up for a spot of spring cleaning (and waiting for the mister here to work out what our oven is actually for). That sounds a lovely meal with Annie. Hope Monday has gotten your week off to a good start.

  10. Good to hear you're on the mend. Your cleaning ritual made me laugh, especially when you found builders dust. I never believe in cleaning until I can see a good layer of grey dust lol. Glad to hear Sam is still being helpful, bet you enjoyed that meal out with your daughter. Sun has been beautiful here today. I spent the whole day out of doors. Bliss. Enjoy your week. B x

  11. It sounds like a lovey weekend, with the exception of feeling so unwell during the night. It was a quiet weekend here at our cottage. The only drama was when the handle on my bathtub suddenly stopped turning to the hot setting. It wouldn't have been drama except for the fact that I am addicted to my hot baths. I will have to settle for lukewarm baths until we can get the plumber to come out. And if it makes you feel any better about finding dust from when the builders were there, I'm still finding glitter from Christmas.

  12. That does sound like a good weekend. I wanted to spend some time cleaning up in the garden but never quite managed to get out there. But we did spend a fabulous morning in Ely, had some lovely long walks and took afternoon tea over to my Mum on Sunday, so a good weekend for us too.

  13. That's a great weekend. I'm glad you and Richard are both feeling better and you had a lovely meal out with Annie. The weather here was lovely too. We had our pop up restaurant on Saturday evening so the whole day was very busy. Sunday was better. My husband was at work but the three of us were able to enjoy the sunshine. It was nice. x

Sounds like you've had a productive weekend despite not feeling your best.

  15. Hey we brought some of those cold bugs back with us from the UK as well - they can be quite miserable so mega sympathies. Athough, you sound like you did what most of us women do after time out sick bounce back like the Everyready bunny... next time I think you deserve to bookend the weekend with the Prosecco though! 16. Haha love the description of Waitrose clientele hipster beards and soccer mums :) Glad you are on the mend, so many people I know have had the dreaded lurgy xx

  17. I hope you're properly better now, Christina. Spring colds are a pain. It sounds as though you had a very busy but rewarding weekend. I love those days when you can throw open the windows and dry loads of washing outdoors. I can't actually remember much about the weekend other than David was out all day on Sunday so I took my kids out for lunch as it was mother's day! I'm lacking enthusiasm to all the cleaning that needs doing here. I know I'll feel much better when it's done but...! Hope you have a lovely weekend. Sam x PS Great idea to take one child out for dinner - sounds like Annie deserved it and lovely to spend time with just her.

  18. Oh, what a lovely post - I love reading about how other people spend their weekends. Your time spent sewing and gardening sounds heavenly, and I can just imagine how satisfying it was to deep clean your bedroom and then relax into clean, line-dried sheets. I'm glad you're feeling better. March was a month for recurring illness for me too (cystitis, nasty) and I'm glad it's over. xx
