on a Thursday morning...

The days are now noticeably getting longer, I feel almost ecstatic about this. I keep monitoring sunrise and sunset times and I like to think that an extra 5 minutes between sunrise and sunset make all the difference. In reality of course it is not noticeable from one day to the next and I continue to wear my high visibility vest and plenty of lights when cycling to and from work. Having said that, this week I am relying on bus travel, which is unusual and a bit more complicated but ok.

Just now, I am sitting in a lecture on snake bites and wish I hadn't eaten a snack just a few minutes ago. We have an on campus teaching week with an eclectic mix of lectures by specialists from all over the world. My office is 4 miles away from the teaching venue and it is just more practical to stay in the lecture theatre, put my headphones on and work quietly in a corner in between introducing speakers.

I am recovering from an ear infection in my right ear. Today is the first day in five that I am not in agonising pain and it seems that I can hear again. As you can imagine, wearing headphones most of the day didn't help. I couldn't get a GP appointment but I have a room full of doctors willing to write out a private prescription if need be. I don't think I'll need it now.

Our bird feeders have been almost untouched for more than a week. I am not sure why this is, maybe our neighbours put out nicer grub, or maybe there is plenty of food around still.

It is miserable here in Glasgow. It is a bit of a theme, the miserable weather. We sleep with the window open but had to close it because the wind pushed the rain in and being rained on in bed is not nice.

I treated myself to a Seasalt tunic. I am not a habitual tunic wearer but this one caught my eye, it has big pockets which I love and it dark green, which I love also. I don't buy many clothes but every now and then I splash out on something that will last. I also finished knitting my pale pink Polaris jumper, which I'll show you soon. Spoilt for choice, that's what I am.

I am listening to "The language of kindness" by Christie Watson. This biography of her nursing career is narrated by Christie herself. I am not prone to weeping when reading but I did have to wipe away tears discreetly when listening to a particularly touching story on the bus.

Life otherwise is uneventful. I haven't spent much quality time with the children this week due to long days at work and very early nights because I wasn't well. Richard reassures me all is well at home. I'll be glad to return to a normal routine next week.

Thanks for visiting.

  1. Hope you feel better soon, earache can be very painful. Miserable weather here too although we did see a peek of the sun earlier sadly it didn't stay long. We are once again back to rain.

  3. Gorgeous photos. That sunset is beautiful. I hope your ear is soon better. I too ride my bike to work and back, weather permitting, and the lighter evenings are noticeably at 5pm. Best, Jane x

  5. Sorry you haven't been well, I hope you're all better soon. Gorgeous photos as Jane says, the squirrel is particularly fantastic. The birds here sometimes don't bother with the bird table. I think next door have some good stuff - sunflower hearts and peanuts. We just have suety things and sourdough crumbs. I am off to inspect Jo's postage stamp quilt now, which looks fabulous. Thank you for pointing me in her direction a while back, I really enjoy her blog. CJ xx

  6. I sure did enjoy your photos.. your Rhodies and Snowdrops are well ahead of ours here in Oregon, USA. Your boys sure are growing up! Sorry about your ear, sounds awful. Glad it's better w/o medicine. Enjoy your flowers! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  7. I have never had an ear infection but I always think it must be one of the most ghastly things to have. Glad you are on the mend. Its good to know the family are well without you wouldn't you say! Mine would love it and get Andy to buy them crisps everyday! Thank you for popping over to see my quilt. Your fabrics were an amazing addition. Jo xxxx

  8. It seems like ear aches are making the rounds, Christina, as I had a bout with one last Saturday. I’m not sure if it was a wax buildup or water, but for several hours I could not hear out of my right ear. I tried a couple of home remedies and not sure if they resolved it or just time did the trick. But, by the evening, I heard a pop sound and all was well again. Sorry that can’t be the easy solution for your discomfort as well. It is staying light longer in the day here as well. Your Thursday images are lovely and varied.

  9. Oddly enough, I have another blog friend who has a similar ear infection in one ear and can hardly hear out of it. (What an odd way to out it, out of it, but that seems to be how we say it.)

  10. Ear infections are horrid so hope it clears up soon. I check the sunrise and sunset times too. It might not make much difference day to day but we already have an hour and a quarter more daytime than a month ago... I might be a little bit obsessive about this! I have only filled our peanut feeder once this year and it is still half full. If I put out mealworms though they get gobbled up!
