wardrobe essentials 2020 - a Liberty Montrose top

Drawings from Cashmerette.com

How are you all doing? We are all well, with the occasional tension headache. The weather continues to be rather nice, which makes me happy because a dog walk or a run in the sun is so much better than a dog walk or a run in the rain. We have a good lockdown routine going I think and all things considered, we live in relative harmony (with occasional fierce outbursts of frustration).

But I am not here today to talk about live as we experience it at the moment. I am here today to show you my second Montrose top. You can see the first version here. I made exactly the same version with Liberty fabric my mum gave me for my birthday last year, or maybe the year before that. I can't actually remember. I notice that the front neckline is not sitting quite perfectly but this is just be an artefact of me posing because this is the first time I notice. The fabric is somewhere in between drapey and structured. What I am trying to say is probably that it holds it shape well. It was a pleasure to sew, not nearly as slippery as the chiffon version I made before.

The back is gathered in the middle, which I rather like. On the diagram above you can see that I made a hybrid version, combining the sleeves of one with the body of the other. There is a second version with a keyhole back. I do like it but I am not sure I have the patience to actually make this. One day maybe.

It is such a simple top but I think it is just right. I am quite sure there are more Montroses in my future. I like to keep things simple and I like to make several version of a pattern that I like and that looks nice on me. Mind you, if this lockdown is going on for a long time, I'll be as big as a house and a small tent might suit me better.

Thanks for visiting. I hope you are keeping well.

  8. Bravo on making your own clothing. You and the blouse are darling! The only thing I make for myself are crocheted hats and scarves. I'm okay with that. Stay well and safe. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
