resting with my feet up
October - where did you come from all of a sudden?
October sneaked up on me, I really didn't see it coming. It is the fourth today and it is glorious outside. The photos are from a walk last weekend. If you have been visiting for a while, you'll recognise our favourite Loch Ardninning loop.
Today unfortunately wasn't a day for walking in the countryside. I fell on my run this morning and I still feel a bit shaken up. My left ankle is swollen and my right leg looks like it's been through a meat grinder. Richard, my shining knight in armour, rescued me once I hobbled to the nearest road (I was jogging along the river walkway). The boys were impressed and slightly sickened when they saw my leg. I'll spare you the photograph. I stood in the shower to wash blood and dirt down the drain but there was a lot of grit embedded in what I knew was my knee but wasn't recognisable as that. Richard suggested the nailbrush for a good scrub but I didn't like the idea much. He took me to minor injuries instead. Sunday morning is good for that, not many folk around. A kind nurse with gentle hands and pointy tweezers spent some time removing pieces of gravel from my knee. Then she thoroughly cleaned the wound with debridement cloth. My injury is described as gravel rash but rash is no word to describe the deep craters on my knee. I won't be running for a while and I have been instructed to have a long hot bath tonight to "float the rest of the grit to the surface" and look out for signs of infection. A cheerful thought. Take home message? Don't wear shorts when jogging on wet gravel paths.
I had to cancel my dog walk but my friend and her daughter came for coffee in the garden, which was lovely.
In other news, it has been busy week at work but I am still managing the stress. I never got around to finishing my lecture on the epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance but I got a lot of other things done.
Everyone is healthy, which is good news during pandemic times.
I'll be back soon with an October... ing post. Today I felt like a bit of moaning and I hope you don't mind. Thanks for visiting.
Oh I feel your pain. Ouch even. Hope it doesn’t feel too painful and that a soapy bath helps. Running has a lot to answer for...and gritty paths. Hopefully your family are looking after you well and your week improves. B x
ReplyDeleteOuch! That sounds painful and no doubt you'll stiffen up a little by tomorrow as well. As adults we get out of the habit of falling over (thankfully) but when it happens it can leave us feeling very shaken. I'm glad you had a knight in shining armour to come to your rescue, not so sure about his nailbrush idea, however. X
ReplyDeleteOh poor you, that sounds really nasty. I imagine you will be stiff and sore tomorrow, I am sending good energy your way. Sorry that the stress is still lingering as well, but good that you are managing it. The walk looks lovely. The weather here has rather taken a turn for the worse. Sunshine is but a memory. Love the first picture, it looks like the top of the world.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about your fall. I sure hope you are feeling better and back to normal soon. And I hope your family is pampering you and taking good care of you - I'm sure they are. It is really amazing that we are in the month of October already!
ReplyDeleteYou have a special place for tiny injuries? I think I should move to Scotland.
ReplyDeleteHope your knee recovers fast and you can get on with autumn.
ReplyDeleteOuch, Christina, thanks for sparing us the photos because the fall did sound dreadful and quite painful. Yeah to Richard for being your hero and coming to your rescue. I hope the healing goes well and that's good advice on wearing long pants on a gravel path. I won't be running anyplace except fast walking on the indoor treadmill in the gym here. The photos were beautiful of your son and the landscape.
ReplyDeleteOh, your poor leg. I hope the hot bath wasn't too painful and that all the debris did float to the surface! Beautiful photos. Sending healing vibes. xx
ReplyDeleteAww you poor thing, sounds very painful and sore. Hope you recover quickly and that you are been spoilt by the family. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOuch. I hope your knee and leg are feeling better today, though I suspect it might feel worse for a few days. Hope you have a lovely and uneventful week!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your fall. That sounds so painful but I am glad you got it taken care of at the clinic. Don't overdo it and give your leg / knee time to heal. Take care.
ReplyDeleteEEK.. what a bummer to fall and have your knee and leg bloodied and graveled! I'm glad you went for professional care. But now I have more reason not to exercise more. LOL! Get well soon and enjoy your resting up. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteHope your knee is better soon. What a horrid thing to happen when you were out jogging.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your Autumn photos so far for October x
Oh dear Christina! As someone who is only just recovering from falling over on wet rocks in August you have my sympathy... it is so easily done. I hope your knee recovers quickly xx
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling much better after your tumble. That kind of thing can really knock you sideways. Know what you mean about it being October already. Still feels like March to me. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh...I'm glad you got it cleaned out. Yikes. Your photos are spectacular. I hope your knee heals quickly.
ReplyDeleteOUCH! that sounds nasty: maybe that is why I don't run anymore! Enjoy that bath and lock the door so you can have some peace. Jo xxx
ReplyDeleteI do hope that your knee is healing well, that sounds so painful.
