boredom, bras and doughnuts

Ladies, I bought a new bra and it is almost comfortable. Apologies to my male readers, the comfort of bras may not be a top priority, although you may hear the women in your life complain about the indignity of bras from time to time. I hate bra shopping, in shops and online. I was puzzled to find that several online lingerie retailers make sizing complicated by not providing a measurement chart for their products but instead offer an interactive questionnaire to find your ideal model based on preferences rather than measurements. I can't be bothered with that. Give me the measurements. And yes, I should (and can) make my own but I don't enjoy it much.

I am exhausted, work has been tiring. It never seems anything but. If I had any other marketable talents, I might reconsider my career. Just 16 years until I reach retirement age. Family live is also exhausting. I'd like to send them all to the moon, or at least to a distant cottage. Alas, we are still under a stay at home order so that's not going to happen.

Lockdown hair anyone? Mine is wild and grey. I bought four pretty hair clips in an attempt to exert a bit of control, and a styling mousse. I know, fancy.

All children are now back at school, the younger ones for two half days, Annie for four half days. Both boys grew out of their school trousers, they are comically short. It looks like they spent all their spare energy on growing. Everything looked a bit crumpled (and still does). James also grew out of his school shoes. He has to wear his big sisters black trainers. We'll be doing some online shopping shortly.

Looking through our bags of hand me down clothes for a pair of school trousers that fit James prompted me to sort through both boys wardrobes. James did his own, then Alistair picked what he liked from James' too small pile and we sorted through his own wardrobe to make space. I think the hand me down clothes are self replicating in the storage bag under my bed, we never seem to run out. The last item of clothing I can remember buying for James was a pair of pjs back in October. This he has outgrown.

Sam visited today for brief half hour after work. It was good to see him more than just in passing. With restrictions easing a little, he is now able to sit with us in the back garden. I am so very tired of all the restrictions but in the interest of public health, we continue to be cautious and adhere to the guidelines. The same cannot be said for all around us. We'll all pay the price at some point.

For distraction, I sewed another long sleeved top. I used the teal and orange wide striped loopback jersey I bought together with the pink and orange version you've already seen. I rather like it, I am wearing it now

I also spent a happy hour cleaning the fridge. It was a bit minging if I can be completely honest and scrubbing every last corner was very satisfying. It is sparkling now. Nobody noticed of course (or maybe it wasn't that dirty in the first place). I also sorted through the freezer and found two tubs of summer berries that I had forgotten about. I made them into mixed berry jelly, it is most delicious.

Finally, I ate three jam doughnuts. Annie made about 12 this weekend. I won't need any more calories until about Wednesday.

With that I'll leave you to ponder your own lockdown lives. I hope it is less tedious than mine. Thanks for visiting.

  1. I wish I could say something exciting about my lockdown life but sadly I am sure it is the same the world over...boring! I try to keep busy and have lots of projects on the go but nothing beats the interaction with real people. Yummy! 3 doughnuts I must admit to feeling a little envious.

  2. Still waiting for the shots here, but some early warm weather does help to lift the spirits.

  3. Your photos are wonderful. Our weather is warm one day and cold the next, but that is pretty normal for spring. I've been trying to get outside and work in the garden getting it ready for spring planting. I also have tons of pine cones to clean out of the yard before I can mow . . . they jam up the shoot in my grass catcher. I spent my winter eating those donuts (more in the form of cookies, muffins, potatoes and noodles, LOL) and now is the time to get outside and work them off.
Wishing you a lovely week :)

  4. More of the same here, although the children are at school full-time, except the eldest, who has plenty of free periods and is home for lunch. Also, the school has been without internet for a week (cyber attack - the last thing they need after everything that has happened - not just covid, but arson and serious graffiti as well)(I know I am making it sound very rough, it isn't really!) so some lessons can't go ahead where the teacher is isolating at home and teaching remotely. Everything is a bit exhausting at the moment isn't it. Sorry work is tough for you right now, I hope it eases up a bit, although I know that might be unlikely. The youngest managed to grow out of his trousers and school shoes in the three months he was off as well. He is currently wearing a hoody passed down from the biggest then middle boy that I remember thinking was absolutely enormous when I first bought it. Nostalgic sigh. Hope it's a good week, and well done on the comfortable bra. CJ Xx

  6. I think we all are weary of this year.. ugh. I do think those of you with children at home are having the worst of it not only dealing with your issues but theirs too. I get my 2nd shot this week and I will be very happy to be done with it. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  7. Weary, tired, exhausted all good words to describe everyone's feelings, and even more so for those in lockdown which seems to be so many places, sadly. Fridge cleaning is something I did last week cleaning necessitated by a coke can that had apparently leaked, not sure how that happens. Anyway, it left a sticky residue that dripped on the pantry floor and I found that Brillo pads worked well for this cleanup. Bra shopping is something I also abhor and even more so now that some stores closed their dressing rooms and I cannot buy anything without a try-on. Dis you order yours online? That would be even more problematic for me. Sooner or later I will need to find some new and hopefully comfortable ones, but for now going bra-less at home has been so comfy. Those jelly donuts must have been delicious freshly made.

  8. I admire your restraint with the jam doughnuts. I'm not sure I would have stopped at three :)

  9. Are those chives growing in the one picture? That reminded me that I have chive seeds to plant.
My kids are grown so all of the experiences you are having with clothes and growth are all in my past. It goes so quickly that you are amazed when it is all done! Sad and glad at the same time! You know already because of Sam being on his own.
Your Annie is a treasure of a cook!

  10. Oh, donuts...yum! I'm impressed that you cleaned your fridge in an hour. I need to work on mine. Lockdown must be hard with a family. I feel pretty spoiled on my own. Have found a comfortable routine with Lula.

  11. You saved the most important for last. Always eat the doughnuts and all will be well😉

  12. It's all very samey here, too. At least you have donuts. But I'm pretty sure my gleaming skirting boards trump your immaculate fridge.

  13. At least you got the doughnuts to brighten your week. I feel a bit blah! about work too at the moment it is people, the grown ups that is not the children. People trying to get on up the ladder with their friendships, opinions and so on I am finding that all very depressing. Like you if I can come up with a way out I'll take it! Have a lovely week and I hope it is less tiring for you. x

  14. Real life! I love your blog so much because it is about real life and not so much about flowers and everything that is perfect. I love that you ate wonderful doughnuts, and I am sorry about restrictions and work issues although I seem to have both. No one here is abiding by restrictions anymore. It seems like it is a free for all, not me I am mask waring and cautious as I can be. Stay strong my friend.
