not the weekend I had hoped for

Here is Queen Pippin, now officially declared non-radioactive. She is allowed back outside and has been exploring the wilderness of our back garden. Pippin is much calmer now, less noisy and a little bit less skinny, too. Her fur is looking shiny and well groomed. Her progress is promising.

This weekend didn't quite pan out as planned. Sam had planned to come up for the weekend, to celebrate his 21st Birthday with us. Annie was also coming from St. Andrews to help us celebrate. Unfortunately, all train services from York to Scotland were cancelled due to storm Arwen and Sam didn't make it to Glasgow. I am a little bit heartbroken. Annie made it home ok although she said that it had been pretty wild on the roads. Sam is ok, he found friends to celebrate with. I am glad he wasn't on his own. It was lovely to have Annie to stay.

I am feeling really grumpy right now. I discovered a trainer covered in dog poo inside a backpack, also covered in dog poo. I also found my shoe horn broken and hidden away. It had been missing for a couple of weeks. I like to use it to put on my running shoes because they are a bit worn out and difficult to put on. The house just doesn't ever seem to be clean, no matter how much I try to keep on top of it, the laundry is like an metastatic tumour. I have a week of practical teaching ahead, half of it likely to be disrupted by industrial action. Did I already mention my lady beard? It is growing out of control. It is all a bit soul destroying.

But it is a sunny Sunday afternoon. I am sitting on the sofa in the thoroughly cleaned living room, sun warming my face. I'll take that for now.

Thanks for visiting and sending a bit of sunshine my way.

  1. Oh, a thoroughly cleaned living room, what a lovely thing that must be. I know exactly what you mean about the rest of it though. It's an uphill battle. I get zero help, hindrance in fact, so I am very much going it alone, which doesn't help. I like things to be clean on Sunday so that it feels like a good start to the week, and I try not to work on Sunday evening, but today it was a lick and a promise. No-one will notice, one way or the other. Sorry you didn't get to see Sam for his 21st, that is very disappointing. Hopefully you can see him soon. Sending you some virtual sunshine. CJ xx

  3. So sorry the planned weekend didn’t happen. I’m sure you will reenactment it when you can. I’m sure Sam enjoyed himself:). Empathising about all the poo stuff. Enjoy the brief moment of sun and hoping your week is ok. Glad that Pippin is on the mend ☀️☀️B x

  4. So sorry you weren’t able to be with Sam on his birthday. We made a fairly treacherous trip across the Pennines to visit Kate yesterday. The wind had dropped but there was a lot of snow and ice. Know exactly what you mean about the house. There are only two of us and the dog but it is still messy. X Doris

  5. Sending you a big hug, never mind sunshine. We all have grumpy days and we need them to remind us how good the rest of the time is. I'm sorry you didn't get to see Sam and I hope you get to celebrate together soon xx

  6. Take some joy from the small victories. Having said that, even a clean and tidy living room would be a huge achievement for me at the moment. The dust will just have to wait. X

  7. Cleaning can be discouraging. If we keep at it regularly, though, we are still living well. Easy for me to say, I only have to clean up after myself and my dog. My mom used to give herself a day off from cooking and cleaning. My dad would take her out to dinner. That really seemed to help.

  8. How disappointing that the train service wrecked the plans for your son's birthday at home. Hopefully you can plan another celebration soon. I hope the rest of the week and month go well. A tidy and clean living room is a victory. I often stand in the entrance way and just look when I achieve that.

  9. Well the cliche about best laid plans goin all to you know what seems to have happened, Christina. Glad to read that both children were safe despite the storm that I read about this morning. Even keeping up in a household of 2 adults seems tiresome at times, so keeping up with yours certainly is more difficult and never ending. Finding a bit of sunshine on the couch is well deserved. Glad Pippin is doing well and home.

  10. I completely relate to the pains of metastatic laundry (and lady beard).

  11. Oh no so sorry your weekend was ruined at least you managed to clean up. Try and make some time for you this week, that may mean leaving the house where they can't find you and I don't mean for work. ;) x

  13. Awww Christina sounds like you need a hug. Horrid when things just seem to get on top and make us feel grumpy. Trying to send you some love and subshine.
Glad Pippin is doing well. Shame the weekend celebration didn't work out quite the way planned but glad Sam was with friends xx

  14. Ouch that all sounds rubbish. Sometimes that is what life throws at us but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with. Sending sunshine. xxxx
