on burying my head in the sand
We had a snow day. The snow remained on the ground for just a few hours but I don't mind because the city of Glasgow is not equipped to deal with snow on roads, particular residential roads like mine, and definitely not pavements.
On the topic of weather, we also had a sunny Sunday, which is quite remarkable. It felt like a real treat, the sun was warming my back when I was tidying up the garden. I always get the urge to garden the first time it feels a bit warm in a new year. My flower beds are ready for new growth. I also pruned a clematis that needed some cutting back. I fear that my approach was too brutal but time will tell. I discovered that the resident squirrel got into one of my tulip pots. I think there is hope for some growth but some bulbs have been dug up.
We had a long chat over dinner with the boys about the invasion of Ukraine. Awful, really awful. Not the chat of course but the invasion. James and Alistair are not all that interested in what is going on in the world but we felt it was important to talk about it and give them accurate information to counteract some of the misinformation that they pick up from pals. They rarely question anything they hear but hopefully with age and maturity, this will change. Richard is a bit of a history and current affairs buff and did a great job explaining. I hope this will alleviate some of boys immediate worries but of course the situation in the Ukraine is very serious and could escalate very quickly.
I try not to let this worry dominate my day. Keeping busy helps. Gardening, tidying, listening to books, walking, working, anything really to keep my mind busy.
Pippin has her final checkup today, after her recent ordeal of hypothermia and injury, probably caused by being trapped outside for a long time. I just watched her scamper around the garden, must make sure to close the cat flap when she returns for a nap.
Thanks for visiting 😊. Maybe this short posts can distract you a little as well, for a minute or two, for I am sure you are equally worried about what is happening in the Ukraine.
Enjoy the beginnings of spring. We will have to wait awhile.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's horrific isn't it. I really don't have the words. Glad Pippin is on the mend. Bertie is too, although a bit lazy about walking in the mornings. Maybe just not a morning dog..? A glorious sunny Sunday here too. I have sown a few seeds - tomatoes, sweet peas and zinnias. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteThe sunshine this weekend was glorious wasn't it, we had it too. It is horrific what is happening in the world, I do hope there is a peaceful end to it very soon.
ReplyDeleteWe had a sunny Sunday down here in Birmingham too. A simple pleasure but one we appreciated very much with all the other serious things going on around us.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been in the garden this last few days but there is plenty I should be doing. Maybe D can give me a hand when she moves back in :)
Worries here too like you. Keeping busy is the way forward and only checking the news once a day. Glad Pippin is on the mend. I’m certainly enjoying my cat sitting which has been extended. My son is stuck in Iceland thanks to problems with BA but hopefully he is returning today. Keep smiling. B x
ReplyDeleteThose pesky squirrels. My daffs are up and the tulips are just poking through. We have not had snow here this year much to the girls disappointment. Keep your mind busy amongst such awful news. jo x
ReplyDeleteThe recent sunny weather was much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI hope the boys are okay. This week's issue of First News is free to download and is a helpful resource in explaining the current situation to children. X
Distraction is much needed and I have stayed away but slowly back visiting
ReplyDeleteThe world news is indeed distressing on so many levels. It is a good thing that you and Richard have discussed events with your sons. Admittedly, I am not watching the news as much as many others, at least not daily. Lately, I have been concentrating on other things like more exercise and conscious eating. Perhaps not the best approach but helps with my mental outlook. The snow was lovely and our most recent is going away fast.
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad. Your photos are gorgeous. It is comforting to have a home and garden in these times. I feel for those people who have been displaced.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are gorgeous, so snow here (unless you count a 5 minute flurry last week). So lovely to see signs of spring emerging.
ReplyDeleteI've just restarted my blog at emeraldcottage.blogspot.co.uk , would be lovely to see you over there :)
