So much light
We are nearly there! Just a few days to meteorological spring. The days are so much longer than just a few weeks ago and it is daylight when I get up in the morning now. The light makes a big difference to my energy levels, or maybe I should say how I deal with low energy levels. More of the same, please!
This was a short working week, I took Monday and Tuesday off to go on a wee trip with my book group friends. We booked a cottage on the shores of Loch Lomond for three nights, although half of us were only able to stay for two nights because of our various job and family commitments. It was good to get away and I am glad I convinced the antisocial creature inside me that it would do me good. We went for walks and ate lots of food, we chatted and ate some more food. There was a hot tub which my friends loved. I am not keen on hot tubs, when I see one I think UTI and impetigo. So I spent the solitary moments when my friends were soaking recharging my social batteries for another round of chats and food. Restorative.
The only downside was that I missed ballet and that the robot didn’t get a run around the downstairs on its usual working day.
I had to remark two assessments after receiving outcomes for plagiarism referrals to academic student conduct. The penalties were unusually lenient, considering the extent of the plagiarism. Alas, not my decision. Having said that, one of the students may not be able to graduate at the level intended.
I started listening to a new crime series, set in Iceland. The first book in the series is “The clues in the Fjord” by Satu Rämö. I just finished “I who have never known men” by Jacqueline Harpman. A proper dystopian novel which I loved. At first I was a bit confused because I accidentally started listening to chapter 10… I noticed more than an hour in, which is somewhat embarrassing.
Annie sent me a present. It was a wee knitted top I tried on last weekend when I took Annie clothes shopping. I really liked it but it was too large. Annie ordered me a smaller one online. That was such a lovely surprise and I am wearing it now.
In other news, my hair is very short again,
Thanks for visiting 😊
Your get-a-way sounds terrific. Curious, I googled the loch you mentioned and was not surprised that my wife and I have been there too, on the train to Fort William & Inverlochy, where we spent a rainy/foggy wonderful day (not) looking at Ben Nevis, ha. Someday I hope we will return to Scotland.
ReplyDeleteSpring is still a feint wish here. It is snowing again this morning. Just thinking about plagiarism. I would tell my students that two citations per page would be a good attempt to be honest. Of course, that was just for high school and not a rigorous university course.
ReplyDeleteI loved Hildur by Satu Rämö, one of my best reads lately. It apparently is the first of a series. Well now I realize that it is the same book as the one you've started listening to ! Hildur is the title for the french version. Hope you enjoy it too.

Glad you were able to get away for a few days with your book reading friends and enjoy time on the shores of Loch Lomond.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely surprise from Annie - she is a real sweetheart to order the top for you.
Lovely photos, it sounds like you had a nice time away with your book club. It's sad about the plagiarism, to work so hard in studying at a higher level and then to blow it.
ReplyDeleteAnnie is an angel. Take care Christina and have a good week x
The views around Loch Lomond are glorious. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, even if you didn't use the hot tub :) Having seen some of the hot tub cleaning videos on Instagram recently, I'd be inclined to join you. Xx
ReplyDeleteI am with you on avoiding the hot tub. I remember my friend’s encounter with one at a resort. A raging UTI afterwards that her Doctor commented was the worst she had encountered. What a wonderful setting for a break. I am glad you enjoyed it. I belong to a paint group, and did decline a short trip, mainly because I had just joined and didn’t know the group very well. What a thoughtful daughter you have. Jean in Winnipeg.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great adventure to go on, a book getaway. Did you also find time to discuss books in between the outdoor walking and enjoying good food ? I was curious about the plagiarism incidents as so much is readily available online now compared to years ago when one had to research at a library or other places. Spring is being fickle here with several warm days then a couple of cooler ones, but thankfuly no more snow; however, a rainy day would be a welcome event.
