meet Josie

Another busy week… I am longing to retire on a full pension. Alas, 12 years to go. Just a very quick post today to introduce you to our new kitten, Josie. She is settling in well, a feisty wee thing. Currently she is asleep on my left foot.

She came as a bit of surprise, I had contacted her owner via an add online but had not heard back and assumed she had been taken. In the meantime, Richard and I were going to pick up a Jack Russell puppy. We don‘t do things by half in this house! The day before meeting the puppy, the breeder messaged to let me know the puppy had taken unwell and was admitted into overnight veterinary care. Thus disappointed, I was wondering what to do with my Saturday (volunteering was cancelled) but it just so happened that I received a message on Friday evening from the kitten owner, to say that the kitten had not been collected by another party and did I still want to give her a home. I did. I messaged Annie, who got up very early on Saturday to take a bus to Glasgow so we could go and meet the kitten together. It was exciting! She was allowed to bring a wee blanket for comfort but she shows no interest in it.

It was the day before Mother‘s Day and by some lucky coincidence, all four offspring were at home. I suspect it was the kitten, rather than me they wanted to spend time with. But I take it. We had a debate about the name. Of course we did! I really wanted to call her Mabel but this faced some opposition. In the end, I was allowed to pick a name because a) I paid for the kitten and b) it was Mother‘s Day. I am a nice woman though so didn‘t insist on Mabel. I chose Josie but in secret, I call her Mabel.

Josie‘s been with us for a week now and seems happy enough. She had a vet check-up and her first jags, she was wormed and just needs flea treatment applied to her neck now.

Jack thinks she is terrifying and so far is keeping his distance. They‘ll be ok. Jack is used to live with cats and knows their claws are not to be messed with. Josie does a mighty hiss when he is close but also seems to seek him out. I don‘t quite trust them enough to leave them in the house without putting one or the other behind a firmly closed door. Best not to tempt fate.

It is good to have a cat again! 🐈

  1. As an ailurophile of sorts, I applaud. However much I like cards, I only have one of them.

  5. Christina, it was so nice to meet Josie, officially, after the WhatsApp introduction and the name seems nicer than Mabel. Hope that she and Jack will make peace so he doesn’t get clawed. Curious as to the outcome with the ailing puppy Nd will it also be joining your household in the future. And, retirement is a wonderful thing to look forward to, most definitely.
