In between
weekends that is.
The kitten wakes me up at about 4:30 to 5 am am every morning… after evicting her from our chambers (for her to bother someone else), I usually manage to go back to sleep but it is not a restful sleep. It is hard to be cross with her though, she is the cutest thing ever. Jack doesn’t agree with me, he thinks Josie is the devil incarnate. He is comical, when she approaches, he turns his head away. He must think if he can’t see her, she doesn’t exist. She is keen to be his friend and walks around him to draw his attention but he keeps on turning his head away. Free entertainment, and not screen-based - a bonus!
The weather has been glorious for days. I reluctantly conceded it was time for the summer duvet. If it was just me, I would sleep with a 13 tog down duvet year round, supplemented with a couple of quilts in mid winter. The summer duvet is 7 tog and it doesn’t quite keep me warm enough just now, or ever actually. I pile on a quilt and a crochet blanket for additional warmth, put on a jumper and heat up a water bottle. I know, pathetic! I don’t know why I feel the cold so much but I suppose it is just how my body is (my thyroid function is just fine). The summer duvet is stored under our bed in a flat bag and pulling this out caused the dust bunnies to emerge, too. I felt compelled to do a proper clean-up before putting the winter duvet into the storage bag. I then sorted through my wardrobe and filled another storage bag with clothes that I don’t wear but am not ready to part with yet. If I don’t miss anything by the time the next duvet change over arrives, the clothes will be donated.
Do you mend clothes and other items? It is not my greatest strength but I try. One of my hand stitched quilts was damaged from daily use and I had to replace one block with a new one. I still have to re-stitch the quilting lines but the repair looks just fine. I also wanted to mend my reading cushion cover but it was beyond repair after two previous mends. The old cover goes on the compost because it was made from 100% cotton scraps and I used teeny tiny fabric scraps to make the new one. I still have two pairs of socks to mend, my least favourite things to mend. I pushed them to the bottom of a drawer for now.
It was my Birthday and Richard organised a party for me in our garden. The good weather was ordered months ago and it was splendid. It was lovely to catch up with friends, some of which I haven't seen in a good while. It is always a bit worrying to throw together a group of people that are in different friendship groups but I think it worked out just fine. There were excellent conversations, much food and drink. Everybody had a lovely time. Even three of four children made an appearance. I also had an extra daughter for the weekend, Annies sweet friend from New Zealand. The only downside of a party is that we'll be eating leftovers for the foreseeable future...
In other news, Annie was offered the job she interviewed for last week. I am a proud mother, for sure.
We are still waiting to hear if Iris will have an apprenticeship position but her interview went well. It was an all morning affair with practical work, a numeracy and literacy test and an actual interview. Keep your fingers crossed!
Thanks for visiting 😊
Happy Belated Birthday!!!! You deserve to be adored and loved by everyone. I know you area adored by all of us in blogland. Congrats to Annie! Such an accomplished young person who deserves all the best.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday. Good news about Annie's work. Even the palette in this post is celebratory.
ReplyDeleteYour party sounds delightful. Yes I mend clothes, always have, I even darn socks bought from the store. My thrifty nature, even though these days it isn't a cost factor. Both my daughter-in-law never learned to sew in school so I often do repairs or raise hems for them. Marguerite
ReplyDeleteLast night, for the first time since whenever, I lay down with just a sheet cover. I exchanged it for a blanket in the middle of the night.
ReplyDeleteIt’s always me who wants an extra cover, whether in colder or warmer months. My other half, Patrick, will open the window regardless of the season, so I am with you, aside from the hot water bottle😏Funny to red about the interaction (or not) of Josie and Jack. Glad you had a wonderful birthday get together and left overs mean less cooking chores. Congrats to Annie on the job and hope all goes well for Iris.
ReplyDeleteBelated Birthday wishes, Christina! Also, huge congratulations to Annie, and fingers tightly crossed for Iris.
ReplyDeleteI hear you in regards to the duvet. But thankfully, it is just me, and I keep my 13 tog all year round :)
Happy belated Birthday to you! Mine was the 3rd! May is a great month for a birthday! Your party sounds really fun, and those tulips are gorgeous! Congrats to Annie on the new job. Very exciting for her!
ReplyDeleteYes, I mend everything. I like to darn my socks with a vintage darning egg. I save the yarn, since I knit all my socks. Next on the mending list is my towels. The edges are coming apart…
