happy new year

Happy New Year and good riddance to 2025!

I think I’ll try and write a short post at least once a week. It is so easy to fall of the waggon and not post and entire weeks pass without recording the daily comings and goings. Maybe just a photo and a few lines, maybe something more substantial.

These past few days have all been about Frankie. He is a bit of a menace, for sure. Nothing is safe from his pointy teeth but he is easily distracted with a chewy bone. I am not sure what this is made off but it seems to be impervious to puppy teeth. He discovered the cat tunnel to the outside world, which is problematic until he is too big to squeeze through small gaps in the fence. Extra vigilance is the best solution. I took him out for a supervised garden visit and he went all bananas. Hopping like a bunny, sticking his nose into all sorts. Jack joined us for a while and even sniffed Frankie’s bum. Progress! Jack is not keen on the bouncy puppy but he is starting to tolerate his presence, as long as the pup doesn’t demand to be played with.

I started with puppy training but Frankie still has a short attention span, so five minutes at most. He understands “sit” now but sometimes thinks he gets a reward every time he sits, not just on demand. He is learning what “no” means.

We try to give him as many positive experiences as possible, today he came for a walk in his puppy carrier sling bag and then was allowed to sniff and explore the forest floor for 10 minutes. This also doubled as lead training of sorts although more in the sense that he gets used to the lead, not that he walks at my heel.

He likes his crate, so no crate training was necessary. He sleeps happily through the night, which is great. I expect he wakes up every now and then but goes back to sleep without fuss. Maybe I am just too deaf to hear him. He was born in a kennel in an outbuilding, not in a house full of people, that probably helped with him sleeping on his own.

Enough Frankie stories for now. There will be more, be prepared for it! Thanks for visiting 😊
